KLEUR ALS IN MANTEL (zevende kamer)

"Ik wilde een horizontaal, landschappelijk werk maken dat is opgebouwd uit flexibele aluminium buis. Wanneer je de buis over de lengte openknipt en de uiteindes aan elkaar verbindt dan krijg je een gezwollen, bolstaande vorm. De bolling is hol en lijkt kwetsbaar als een eierschaal maar tegelijkertijd heeft ze zwellende kracht, de mogelijkheid om te groeien. In de holte van de bolvorm werkte ik met binnenste buiten gekeerde buis, door die omdraaiing ontstaat een golvend, onvoorspelbaar naar binnen gericht ritme. Vanuit de eerste ronding stroomt een nieuwe lagere lus; 'MoonRiver' is daarmee opgebouwd uit twee variaties van dezelfde beweging.

Ooit zag ik hoe de stralen van een laaghangende zon door het water schenen en kleuren projecteerden op zwerfkeien aan de oever van een meer. De kleuren op 'MoonRiver' zijn afgeleid van die herinnering. De kleuren zijn met spuitbus aangebracht op een witte ondergrond van acrylhars. Soms gaan ze met de vorm mee en soms volgen ze een eigen weg waardoor het moeilijk te zien is wat schaduw, wat verf en wat vorm is. Ik hou van die verwarring en denk dat in dat moment het karakter van het werk zichtbaar wordt.

De titel is een samensmelting van een solide vorm en een stromende beweging. 'MoonRiver', de maan en een rivier."

"I wanted to create a horizontal, landscape-like work constructed from flexible aluminum tubing. When you cut the tube open lengthwise and connect the ends, you get a swollen, bulbous shape. The bulge is hollow and seems fragile as an eggshell, yet at the same time, it possesses a swelling force, the ability to grow. Inside the cavity of the sphere, I worked with tubing turned inside out; this reversal creates a wavy, unpredictable, inward-directed rhythm. From the first curve, a new, lower loop flows; 'MoonRiver' is thus composed of two variations of the same movement.

I once saw the rays of a low-hanging sun shining through the water and projecting colors onto boulders on the shore of a lake. The colors on 'MoonRiver' are derived from that memory. The colors were applied with spray paint onto a white acrylic resin base. Sometimes they follow the shape, and sometimes they follow their own path, making it difficult to distinguish what is shadow, what is paint, and what is form. I love that confusion and think that in that moment the character of the work becomes visible.

The title is a fusion of a solid form and a flowing movement. 'MoonRiver', the moon and a river."
