GEWORPENHEID (entree)

THROWNNESS (entrance)
In Andreas Keil's painting, support, action, material and color come together to form one-of-a-kind, unique objects.
The small-format panels refer to the human scale of moments, impressions, memories, or possibly even portraits as we know them from the history of painting. The panels are presented as a group of distinct identities or personalities that are interrelated, between which we, as viewers, move and to which we relate.
The found panels carry a history with them, and Andreas Keil has set his sights on them because of their form, signs of use, or patina. Thus, the panel serves not only as a support but also as a starting point for painting.
Without theoretical starting points or a systematic approach, the painter applies oil paint in many layers. In a careful, often lengthy, and always intuitive process, he arrives at an image. An image that acts as a mental mirror, appealing both to the space in which the painting is situated and to the viewer moving within the space between the panels. The sides of the work and the changing play of light make it an object in which color and structure come to life. It appeals to the sensitivity of looking. It makes one aware of what is visible; what impression does looking give, how does this translate inwardly, and how can this be conveyed?
