KLEUR ALS IN MANTEL

(zevende kamer)

COLOR AS IN ROBE

(seventh room)

The phenomenon of color finds its meaning in conjunction with environment and circumstances. We can read the colors, the material, and the actions as the origin of the artwork. It is color, together with the material and the actions, that reveals the meaning of the artwork in time.

The meaning of the artwork wishes to elude craftsmanship. The displayed craftsmanship withdraws into the background to return as a direct action to the reality that holds our eye and mind in its grip. It is color, material, and action that reveal reality and let it shine in the light of what we can attribute to ourselves. We stand by, allowing ourselves to be enveloped by what we see. Because we cannot escape it, we seek value. The moment impressions come upon us, words also come to us. Approval or disapproval are the simplest translations of what reaches us. A functional analysis of what we see is the next step.

Perhaps we can say that a careful naming of what we see lifts a corner of the veil regarding what the artwork can mean to us in a poetic sense.
